Peterborough United's rising star and son of Ashley Younger, Tyler Younger, made an impressive impact during his debut in the club's 2-0 EFL Trophy win over Stevenage at the Weston Properties Stadium.
Introduced in the final half hour, Younger caught the eye with a composed and energetic performance, entering the game alongside fellow 18-year-old debutant David Kamara. Praised for his tireless attacking efforts, Kamara also earned positive feedback from manager Darren Ferguson.
Younger's journey to Peterborough began over the summer after a brief trial at the club, following his departure from Arsenal's academy, where he had spent much of his youth career.
While Tyler had been on the bench during Peterborough's recent 3-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic in League One, his official first-team debut gave him something to celebrate.
Just a day after their first team appearances, Younger, Kamara and Ollie Rose returned to action, starting for Peterborough's under-21 team in a Professional Development League match against Burnley.
Peterborough United's rising star and Ashley Younger's son Tyler Younger made an impressive impact during his debut in the club's 2-0 EFL Trophy win over Stevenage.
Featured in the final half hour, Younger turned heads with a poised and energetic performance.
Younger could find himself in contention for more first-team minutes in Peterborough's upcoming League One clash against Rotherham United, with midfield regulars Jack Collins suspended and Hector Kyprianou sidelined through injury.
Adding intrigue to the youngster's rise is his football lineage: he is the son of Premier League veteran Ashley Younger, who has enjoyed a distinguished career with clubs such as Manchester United, Aston Villa and Everton.
Despite his father's 720-game lead, Tyler is beginning to carve his own path in the football world, stating that he tried to treat his professional debut like any other game.
Speaking after Tuesday night's game, Tyler said: “The weather was pretty bad today, but I feel like I was ready to go when the coach told me, “Get ready.” Even with the delay, he was still ready to go. So I took care of everything.
'But it was a great experience. I didn't expect to take so long. I was thinking that maybe I would be on the field for 10 to 15 minutes, but when I went in I felt very average. It was just about playing football and doing what I would normally do week in and week out.
'Archie Collins and Manny Fernández explained the game to me, which was a big help. “They made me feel comfortable and it was good to have David Kamara and Ollie Rose on the field who I play with week in and week out and that helped too.”
Ashley Younger took to social media to praise her son for making his debut on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old finished by saying: “I deal with the pressure by remembering that it is just a football match.” The Trophy is a good competition for young players.”
Meanwhile, his father took to social media to share a series of photos from Tyler's debut with the caption: “Proud doesn't even begin to explain this moment for you.” Congratulations on your debut son and hopefully many more to come.”
Fans have taken to social media to praise Tyler, who was nominated for Tuesday's Man of the Match award for his performance. Some even claimed that the 18-year-old could be better than his father if he continues to work hard.
One fan wrote: “You never know, Tyler might end up being better than his dad if he follows his advice and trains hard.” Never say never! But what a story that would be…'.
Another added: 'A good performance from Tyler tonight. Good few touches. I'm sure there will be more from him.”
While one fan said: “Not a bad start for the youngsters tonight.” We look forward to seeing what more they can do for us.”
