Tate McRae I may not be riding a jet ski again anytime soon.
During a Wednesday, October 9, appearance on Capital Radio, McRae, 21, opened up to introduce Jimmy Hill about a harrowing experience she had while on vacation with her boyfriend, The Laroi boythis summer.
“[You had] A pretty scary accident that occurred during the summer on a jet ski. … You fell and almost got eaten by a whale,” Hill urged.
“I didn't realize what I was getting into,” McRae responded. “You know you trust your boyfriend, but also jet skis are the worst. “They turn around every two seconds.”
McRae went on to explain that she and Laroi, also 21, fell into the water about “10 feet away” from a whale at one point.
“I thought, 'We almost just landed in a whale's mouth!'” he recalled. “That's so strange to me, the ocean is a really strange thing to me, you're just there and it's black and your toes are dangling and that's so strange.”
Although the couple was unharmed, McRae felt acutely aware of how vulnerable they were.
“I had that feeling when we fell into the water and you feel this tingling on the bottom of your feet and you think, 'We could die right now,'” he said.

Despite being skeptical about his jet ski driving skills, McRae has remained strong with Laroi since sparking romance rumors in January. The Australian rapper seemingly confirmed their relationship in April when he referred to McRae as his “girlfriend” during a concert in Dublin.
The duo performed together during McRae's debut at the Madison Square Garden in August. McRae brought Laroi on stage to sing an acoustic version of her song “With out You” and told the crowd that it was “the first time they sang together.”
Laroi gave McRae a kiss at the end of the performance and said, “I'm so proud of you and you have so many people here that love you. I am one of them.
Laroi was back at his girlfriend's side at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. He was photographed hugging McRae, who was nominated for Best Pop and Best Choreography, and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Laroi also shared some snaps from the night via Instagram, including a photo of him and the “Grasping” singer.
“I voluntarily went to an awards show last night and really had a great time,” she wrote in the caption.
