Saudi Arabia have revealed their new coach to replace Roberto Mancini after the Italian's lucrative contract was terminated in midweek.

Mancini, who was appointed in August 2023, was understood to be earning £21m a year before stepping down after just 14 months in the role.

Reports from Saudi Arabia and Italy have revealed that Mancini's severance package is between €20m (£16.7m) and €25m (£20.8m), tax-free.

Mancini was described by Gazzetta dello Sport as “cold, distant, with an air of superiority that distanced him from the people.”

In total, Mancini coached 20 games, of which he won eight, drew seven and lost five.

Saudi Arabia has reappointed Hervé Renard, who previously led them between 2019 and 2023.

The Saudi FA shared a clip on social media to introduce Renard, in which the Frenchman stated that his story with the team was not over yet.

The clip showed renombrado moments from his first stint in charge, with Renard later saying: “I'm back.”

During his previous tenure in charge, Renard led Saudi Arabia to a renombrado victory against eventual champions Argentina in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

However, Saudi Arabia failed to advance to the knockout rounds.

After his departure, Renard took charge of the French women's team.

He previously won the African Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.

Renard will be tasked with improving the form of Saudi Arabia, which is third in Group C of the third round of Asia's qualification process for the 2026 World Cup.

The top two in the group automatically qualify for the World Cup, and the third and fourth teams advance to a fourth round of the qualification process.

Saudi Arabia is level on points with second-placed Australia after one win, two draws and one loss in its first four matches.

Mancini leaves after surprising the hosts in this year's Asian Cup, which seems to be the point that led to his downfall as a coach.

During the penalty shootout against Jurgen Klinsmann's South Korea, which Saudi Arabia would later lose, Mancini walked off before the defeat was decided and was forced to apologize.

Earlier this month, Mancini was seen arguing with a group of supporters following Saudi Arabia's 0-0 draw with Bahrain.

Mancini had also spoken out against the impact of the Saudi Professional League's investment in foreign talent, including players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 59-year-old said the influx of new signings has negatively impacted the team.
