The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned goaltender Tristan Jarry to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning loan, the team announced Saturday.
Jarry has struggled to start this season, posting a 1-1-0 record with a 5.47 goals-against media and an .836 save percentage in three games.
The two-time All-Star was pulled during his last start on Oct. 16 after allowing three goals on five shots in the first period against the Buffalo Sabres.
He was sent home during the Penguins' trip to work with Jon Elkin, the team's goaltending director.
“The first two starts he had weren't the best,” coach Mike Sullivan said Thursday. “I'm probably stating the obvious when I say that. “But it is our responsibility to help players overcome some of the struggles they inevitably go through in this league, and Tristan is no different.”
Jarry is in the second year of a five-year contract extension he signed in July 2023. While Jarry's six shutouts tied for the NHL lead last season, he was effectively benched down the stretch. last spring in gracia of Alex Nedjelkovic. His goals-against media (2.91) and save percentage (.903) marked career lows since he became an NHL regular during the 2019-20 season.
Nedjelkovic and rookie Joel Blomqvist are splitting goaltending duties right now for Pittsburgh, which has lost four straight. The Penguins will finish their road trip in Vancouver on Saturday before returning to Pittsburgh for a three-game homestand next week.
