Patrick Mahomes Sr. tried to use his son's name to get out of his DWI stop earlier this year… with police video, obtained by sports – showing the elder Mahomes telling police multiple times that an arrest would likely cost the Chiefs star and his team Tremendous Bowl LVIII.
It all happened on February 3, after authorities in Tyler, Texas, stopped Mahomes Sr. following accusations that he was driving a white four-door Genesis that did not have a current registration.

Initially, Mahomes Sr., who was wearing a cap with his son's brand and a sweatshirt with the slogan “Kansas Metropolis Vs. All people,” was cooperative and cordial with the police officers. Police video shows he handed over all the information and documentation officers wanted, even passing around an open can of Coors Mild he had in the center console cupholder.
As can be seen in the footage, he also admitted to drinking “a couple of beers” before getting behind the wheel, and during subsequent field sobriety tests, he remained courteous.
However, once the cops put handcuffs on him after he appeared to stumble in the evidence… his behavior changed noticeably.

Mahomes Sr. can be heard on the officer's body camera asking, “Are you serious?” …before telling them, “I'm supposed to go to the Tremendous Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we're doing?”
Seconds later, after he was placed in a patrol car… he made repeated pleas to the officers to let him go for the sake of his son and the quarterback's upcoming championship game on February 11 against the 49ers.

“Can I say something?” Mahomes Sr. asked. “My son is getting ready to play in the fucking Tremendous Bowl, okay? Just listen to me. I'm not drunk. I promise you. I've had a few drinks. But he can’t take this now.” . Listen, this can’t happen.”
Mahomes Sr. can be heard telling the arresting officer minutes later: “Dude. This is crazy. “My son is getting ready to play in the fucking Tremendous Bowl and I’m doing interviews, five or six a day.” And then, now, this shit is going to come out on the news and it's going to fuck him up, and it's probably going to fuck him up.”
“And I probably won't win the Tremendous Bowl. But it's okay. “If that’s what they want to do, that’s fine.”
Despite Mahomes Sr.'s best efforts, authorities took him to a nearby jail… where officials claimed blood tests showed he had a BAC of .23.

The 54-year-old was eventually released hours after the arrest… and attended the Big Game in Las Vegas later that week, where he got to watch his son beat San Francisco in an overtime thriller.
However, Mahomes Sr. was accused of a Felony DWI third or more, and eventually received a five-year probation sentence after come to an agreement with prosecutors at the end of the summer.
After his sentencing, Mahomes Sr. told reporters that the arrest was “an eye-opener” for him, and that he “hasn't had a drink since.”
