One Route alum Liam Payne's family guide: meet his mom, son Bear and more

Liam Payne He sang the praises of his family through the years.

Payne rose to fame after auditioning for the UK version of X Issue in 2008, and returned in 2010 when he was recruited to be a member of boy band One Route. Created by Simon Cowell, The group consisted of Payne, Harry Kinds, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and zayn malik.

Years after achieving stardom, Payne welcomed her son Bear. Cheryl Cole in 2017. The couple separated the following year.

“My mom brought all my old toys home, and one day Cheryl came to my house and said, 'Oh, he's playing with this red car all the time.' I was yours,'” Payne said exclusively. Us weekly in 2019. “I thought, 'Is that a Jaguar?' And it was my favorite car when it was [young]. So he's literally like a little me.”

Us It confirmed in 2024 that Payne died at age 31 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a lodge in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Karen Payne

Liam's mother shares her daughters Nicola and Ruth, as well as Liam, with Geoff Payne. Following Bear's birth in 2017, Karen took to Instagram to express her excitement about her new role as a grandmother.

“I can finally brag about being a grandmother!” she wrote via Instagram at the time, according to the daily mail. “The happiest grandmother. I am very proud of my children. All I have been doing lately is crying, because I am so happy, now I have the most beautiful grandson in the world… Thank God.”

Nicola Payne

Liam's older sister wrote a sweet message for her younger brother in 2019. “Happy birthday to my not so little brother @liampayne,” she wrote via Instagram alongside a collage. “I hope you had a fabulous day. I love you so much xx 💞.”

Ruth Payne

Liam's second oldest sister has shared several photos of Liam over the years. In 2014, she uploaded a sweet Instagram photo with Liam and Nicola, writing: “For National Siblings Day because I will take care of these two forever #payneos.”

Liam welcomed Bear with Cole in 2017. “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I am speechless…wow!” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “I am incredibly happy to welcome our new baby into the world, it is a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favorite. [sic] I remember I have until now.”

He continued: “I am completely in awe of your amazing mother and how she has gone through all of this, she has truly made my dreams come true. We haven't named it yet but it's already conquering hearts, including mine. I feel very blessed. Happy Mother's Day everyone!
