The WHO director told reporters on Friday that more than 50,000 people have so far been vaccinated against mpox (previously known as monkeypox) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. More than 1,100 people have died from mpox in Africa, and the African Union's health watchdog has warned of a pandemic potentially “more serious” than Covid-19.
