Matt LeBlanc sparks concerns he may be 'disintegrating' a year after Matthew Perry's death as Mates co-stars 'keep an eye on him'

It has been claimed that Matt LeBlanc has sparked concerns that he may be “disintegrating” a year after the death of his Mates co-star Matthew Perry.

The actor, 57, has rarely been seen in public since Matthew's death on October 28, 2023 and some of his fellow Mates actors are said to be worried about him.

Matt sparked concern among his friends after his disheveled appearance in September, according to an InTouch Weekly source, after TMZ obtained photos of him.

The source claimed that stars like Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have expressed concern about Matt.

The two stars are said to have made an effort to spend more time with him in recent weeks and ensure that at least one of them keeps an eye on him.

A source said Jennifer “has been spending a lot of time with Matt at his house… cooking for him, or just hanging out and watching movies, or sitting and chatting.”

He's even stayed over a couple of times. And both she and Courteney have been in touch to make sure at least one of them is around to keep an eye on him.

Matt is no doubt still mourning the death of his close friend Matthew.

In addition to being friends on the show, they were close in current life and were neighbors at the time of Matthew's death, both living in Pacific Palisades.

Matt was the first of the Mates cast to publicly pay tribute to Matthew following the heartbreaking news of his death.

On Instagram, he wrote: 'Matthew. I say goodbye with great regret. The times we spent together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.

'It was an honor to share the stage with you and call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I will never forget you. Never.

'Spread your wings and fly brother, you are finally free. Much love. And I guess you'll keep the $20 you owe me.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Natalie Trice, a public relations and image management consultant, said: “Grieving is a very private journey, and no one can really understand what someone is going through behind the scenes, and as a star this must be really difficult.”

Matt hasn't appeared in any film or TV projects since the Mates HBO reunion special in 2021, and previously said he was “taking some time off.”

While the actor, worth an estimated $85 million, never needs to work again, his friends are said to be worried that without a project to focus on, the pain could consume him.

Trice said, “The entire cast of Mates has faced challenges beyond their iconic roles because the success of the show set an incredibly high bar: how do you shake that label and find equally defining projects?”

This is not the first time that Matt has raised concerns for not being seen in public frequently.

He previously told an interviewer in 2012 that he is more introverted than his Joey Tribbiani character that made him so famous.

He said: “People will always ask me if I'm okay, because I'm much more discreet and reserved than my character in Mates.

“They think I'm depressed or sad or upset, but I'm just not excited to go out in front of an audience and do a TV show. That's not who I am.'

After the success of Mates, Matt attempted to recreate the magic with the spin-off show Joey, which followed his character's new life in Los Angeles.

However, the show was fiercely attacked by critics and ended up being pulled midway through the second season.

Speaking about the universally criticized show in 2015, 10 years after it was axed, he admitted: “It was doomed from the start. The writing and jokes were okay, but the conflict and obstacles in the stories weren't valid enough.

'At Mates Joey the glass was always half full. In Joey it was the glass half empty. And that was sad. I was the same showrunner as Mates and I think we should have taken a year off.

'In Mates I was sharing a 22-minute episode with six other characters. In Joey the script was all mine. It was a lot of responsibility.

“The pressure was so much that I remember feeling as if an elephant had landed on my head.”

But the actor noted there was a silver lining to the two-series show airing when he joked: “I made $30 million, I'd like another one of those flops!”

Matt has largely kept his romantic life out of the spotlight, but was last linked to High Gear producer Aurora Mulligan.

Matt worked with the TV producer on the long-running BBC show after he was recruited to revive his bad luck in 2016, before leaving three years later.

Their six-year relationship is said to have come to an end in 2020, two years before their split was publicly announced.

A source said at the time: 'Matt and Aurora's relationship has run its course. It's over. It's a huge shame and Matt has taken the news especially hard, as anyone would.

“He and Aurora both fell in love with each other on High Gear and, although there was a pretty big age difference, they were a great couple.

“But when he announced he was leaving High Gear and started working another job, it was difficult for them. He lives primarily in Los Angeles and traveled a lot while Aurora worked in the UK.

Prior to this, he was in an eight-year relationship with actress Andrea Anders.

Matt met Andrea on the set of his Mates spin-off series, Joey, and they went public with their romance in 2006, shortly after separating from his wife of three years, Melissa McKnight.

A few months before his split from Andrea was revealed, Matt raised eyebrows when he was seen getting too close to a scantily clad blonde at a party.

At the time, InTouch reported that the masked actor was flirting with the woman he had just crowned the winner of a costume contest at the My Yacht Membership event.

In Touch claimed that Matt had also flirted with other women at the same party and that his behavior was witnessed by three of his reporters.

“He kept a low profile throughout the night, but around 1:30 a.m. he started flirting heavily with the bottle service girls,” the publication said, citing an eyewitness.

Matt 'ended up calling two of them and proceeded to kiss one…and then made the two girls kiss each other. And he did it in front of three journalists from In Contact.

At the time, a rep for the star dismissed suggestions he was flirting, saying he was pandering to fans with photographs and to leave him alone.

Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023 at age 54 after being found unconscious in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home.

His death was determined to be caused by “acute effects of ketamine.”

In August, five people were arrested in connection with his death, supplying him with drugs that caused his overdose.

Doctors Salvador Plasencia, 42, and Mark Chavez, 54, alleged drug dealers Jasveen 'Ketamine Queen' Sangha, 41, and Eric Fleming, 54, and Perry's live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, of 59, have been charged.
