A legendary Australian entertainer has appeared in resurfaced footage of an infamous stunt performed during a 1963 Australian rules football match.
The footage begins by showing the veteran entertainer as a cheerful 20-year-old who is caught running into the middle of a football field during a big game.
The youngster is then seen chatting to the St Kilda FC players while offering them advice on how to win the match, before he is quickly escorted off the field by police.
The veteran artist appears unrecognizable at the beginning of the clip until he suddenly puts on his trademark hat, proving that he is none other than Molly Meldrum.
Molly seemed to be in high spirits as authorities led him off the field, moments after giving the players some tips on winning the game.
The Hey Hey, It's Saturday star later told Nine about why he made the spontaneous decision to invade the field at Junction Oval in Melbourne.
“I was on the cheer team and for some reason I jumped over the fence, ran to the ground, and the referee was about to bounce the ball,” Molly began.
'The referee shouted “Stop!” and I said “Wait a minute.” I told the players that in addition to winning they need a better percentage to enter.”
A legendary Australian entertainer has appeared in resurfaced footage of a 1963 AFL match where they performed a shocking stunt that would have cost them thousands of dollars.
The veteran artist appears unrecognizable at the beginning of the clip until he suddenly puts on his trademark hat, proving that he is none other than Molly Meldrum.
He added that it was worth being chased by the police after helping his beloved team win such an important match, which helped them reach the final.
It follows reports that Molly has been “struggling” with her health in recent months and has largely withdrawn from public life.
Next month will mark 50 years since Countdown, the long-running ABC music show that propelled Meldrum to stardom, debuted on Australian television screens.
Molly, who has made headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent years, was a no-show at a Royal Australian Mint event in Melbourne earlier this month to launch a commemorative Countdown coin.
The images begin by showing the veteran artist as a cheerful 20-year-old who is caught running into the middle of a soccer field during a big game.
The show's host, Gavin Wooden, revealed that his long-time partner had been struggling with his health since a fall from a ladder in December 2011 nearly killed him.
“The fall, it's all because of the fall, it was a horrible thing that happened,” Wooden told Herald Solar.
Although Meldrum did not attend the coin toss, he did issue a statement and snuck in his famous catchphrase every time he recommended an artist on the show: “Do yourself a favor and get one.”
