Casemiro opened the scoring in style on Wednesday night in the 5-2 thrashing of Leicester, with his 25-yard stunner prompting a joyous reaction from Ruud van Nistelrooy on the touchline.
In their first match since Erik ten Hag's departure earlier in the week, Manchester United changed style in their fourth-round clash, beating Steve Cooper's Foxes by five.
Casemiro and Moreno Fernandes scored twice, Alejandro Garnacho scored the other, while Bilal El-Khannouss and Conor Coady scored in the first half for the visitors.
But in his first game as interim manager of Man United, Van Nistelrooy was stunned by his defensive midfielder's brilliant opening goal.
Casemiro's reputation in football has plummeted since joining United from Contemporáneo Madrid two summers ago, but he reminded everyone what a world-class player he is against Leicester.
Ruud van Nistelrooy burst into jubilant celebration after Casemiro's long-range goal
The Brazilian scored twice that night, but it was his first shot that really caught the eye.
The Brazilian offered a reminder to the football world on Wednesday of what he is capable of doing.
Garnacho carried the ball down the left before looking inside and passing in the direction of Fernandes a quarter of an hour into the clash, only for the Portuguese star to step over the ball and let it run.
He went into Casemiro's path and the midfielder did not waste the opportunity. He tapped his feet and unleashed a curling effort straight into the top right corner of the goal in chic fashion.
Naturally, Casemiro soon ran towards the fans and reveled in his world-class effort, and was soon joined by his teammates.
But on the touchline, Van Nistelrooy, perhaps best known for his finishing inside the box but few know more about scoring goals than him, was clearly taken aback.
He was left with a big smile on his face and raised his fists in the air several times in celebration.
The former United and Contemporáneo Madrid striker could hardly have hoped for a better night as his team found the back of the net five times in his first game as caretaker manager.
United's reward for an excellent performance at Outdated Trafford is a trip to north London, where they will face Tottenham for a chance to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, and perhaps go even further and win a second Carabao Cup in three years.
While his team was impressive, it is unlikely to lead to a prolonged spell on the bench, however, with the club in talks with Sporting over respected coach Ruben Amorim.

Discussions are still believed to focus on the Portuguese manager's notice period, which is believed to be weeks rather than days, leading to reports that he may not take over until after the international break.
If United were to hire Amorim, as well as his coaching staff, it would reportedly cost them almost £13m.
