Canadiens' Mike Matheson exits early against Kings with upper-body injury

Montreal Canadians defenseman Mike Matheson left Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings early after suffering an upper body injury, the team announced.

It was not immediately clear how Matheson suffered the injury. His last shift came with just under two minutes remaining in the first half, and he did not return to the team bench in the second.

He logged 7:35 of ice time during the first period.

Matheson, 30, has recorded three assists in five games for the Canadiens this season and has been the team's defenseman assigned to the first power-play unit.

He had 11 goals and 51 assists last season for 62 points in 82 games. He became the first Canadiens defenseman to reach the 60-point mark since PK Subban in 2014-15.
