American figure skater Amber Glenn takes lead at French Grand Prix


Amber Glenn is on track for her first figure skating Grand Prix victory after taking a big lead in the short program in the French round of the series on Friday.

Glenn, of the United States, was the only skater in the women's event to land a triple axel on her way to 78.14 points, taking a lead by more than seven points over Kim Chaeyeon of South Korea with 70.90.

Wakaba Higuchi of Japan, winner at Skate America last month, is third with 66.98. Former European champion Anastasiia Gubanova of Georgia dropped to ninth place after a fall.

A score of 88.12 in his short program was enough to earn China's Boyang Jin a spot in Friday's qualifying at the French Grand Prix.

Jin Boyang led the men's short program in search of his first Grand Prix victory since his home Cup of China in 2020. Jin landed a quadruple toeloop and scored 88.12, with Aleksandr Selevko of Estonia scoring 85.73 and Kazuki Tomono from Japan with 83.45.

There were a number of falls among the top contenders, with two-time European champion and native favorite Adam Siao Him Fa of France only eighth in 74.90 after falling on his last two jumps.
