Shirley MacLaine Names Iconic Hollywood Star Who Rejected Her Sexual Offer

Shirley MacLaine named an iconic Hollywood star who she offered to sleep with but who rejected her advances.

The 90-year-old actress just published her photographic memoir The Wall Of Life: Photos And Tales From This Marvelous Lifetime.

In its pages, he talks about his love life, which was populated by A-list names, from Hollywood heartthrob Robert Mitchum to Soviet filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky.

Many of her affairs overlapped with her open marriage to businessman Steve Parker, who was her husband from 1952 until their divorce in 1984.

However, the book also includes a photo of Shirley with a dashing Hollywood star whom, despite her efforts, she could not win over.

Under a photo of her with Morgan Freeman, Shirley tantalizingly wrote: “I propositioned him and he turned me down.”

Morgan made his Hollywood breakthrough in 1989 with a series of films, including the drama Driving Miss Daisy, for which he won an Oscar for best actor.

At that stage, he was already with his second wife Myrna Colley-Lee, to whom he was married from 1984 until their divorce in 2010.

By 1989, Shirley had been a star for decades, first finding fame on Broadway and then launching her film career in 1955 with her film debut The Bother With Harry, a black comedy directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Although Morgan and Shirley have been Hollywood staples for more than 35 years, and he is only three years younger than her, they have never starred in a movie together.

During her marriage to Steve Parker, which produced her daughter Sachi, 68, Shirley enjoyed flirtations with a wide variety of famous faces.

Soviet director Andrei Konchalovsky, who in his home country made an acclaimed film adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, transitioned to a career in Hollywood in 1980, and Shirley says her romance with him was the reason she moved to the United States.

She also had a relationship with Robert Mitchum, but “wasn't involved enough” with him to leave her husband, she wrote.

And besides, there were a lot of things that depended on us staying married. But Mitchum was a very intelligent, very interesting guy, and he was also married.

On the downside, Robert “didn't have much of a sense of humor,” wrote Shirley, who starred with him in 1962's Two For The Seesaw and 1964's What A Means To Go.

Journalist Pete Hamill was another of her loves during her marriage, as was Andrew Peacock, sometime leader of Australia's Liberal Party.

However, Shirley maintained that she “never saw a future with any of these guys except Steve,” who lived in Japan and had a mistress there. 'It was enough to have an adventure. And it wasn't misleading. Everyone was aware of the situation.'

Elsewhere in the book, Shirley said, presumably ironically, that she slept with all of her leading men except Jack Lemmon and Jack Nicholson.

Jack Lemmon starred alongside Shirley in Billy Wilder's classic 1960 film, The Residence, and then in the same director's 1963 musical comedy, Irma La Douce.

Shirley described him as “a lovely guy” but explained that their friendship was strictly platonic and joked. People who were “like a sister to me.”

Meanwhile, Jack Nicholson and Shirley won Oscars for Phrases Of Endearment, James L. Brooks' 1983 tearjerker.

'He just made me laugh all the time. He was one of my favorite people,” Shirley wrote while remembering their connection. 'I don't think he would have been my type to have an affair anyway. I'd laugh too much.'

She also gushed about Nicolas Cage, her co-star in the 1994 film Guarding Tess, but noted that they also did not have a sexual connection.

'Oh, I love Nicholas. I love Nicholas. He listened to my advice about being a star. Yes, I really liked him a lot, but he wasn't attracted to me,” she said.
