It will be a very sad birthday for Wayne Rooney, whose Plymouth were beaten 1-0 at Millwall on Wednesday night.

Romain Esse's 13th-minute goal secured three points for the hosts and condemned Plymouth to their sixth defeat of the campaign.

The goal came after an error by Plymouth. Bali Mumba was caught in possession by 19-year-old winger Esse, who attacked through the middle and played one-two with George Honeyman before firing home.

Rooney's team has only picked up one point and has only scored one goal on the road. The result extended his winless streak at Millwall to 17 visits, dating back to 1967.

Zian Flemming's first goal for Burnley rescued a point after Hull threatened a surprise victory.

Xavier Simons opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before Flemming headed home from 12 yards to keep Scott Parker's side in the top two, three points behind leaders Sunderland.

Emmanuel Latte Lath's goal ten minutes from time gave Middlesbrough a much-needed victory over Sheffield United.

The 25-year-old, who scored 16 goals in the Championship last season, had not scored since the opening day victory over Swansea, but his header sent the Riverside Stadium into a frenzy. Boro move up to eighth place, with the Blades two points ahead in fifth place.

Blackburn and West Brom played out a goalless draw at Ewood Park, keeping both teams level on points in the play-off zone.
