Laura Dern details sex scenes with Liam Hemsworth in 'Lonely Planet'

Laura Dern It feels like you've hit the jackpot by getting to work with Liam Hemsworth in Lonely Planet – especially when it came time to film their saucy scenes.

“When we were doing those scenes, there was nothing that we couldn't talk about together and work through all of that creatively and professionally,” Dern, 57, said of the process of filming the sex scene with Hemsworth, 34. years, in a recent interview with People. “But we also had a lot of support. “We had a lot, a lot of discussion.”

Dern gushed that she was “very lucky” to be able to work with Hemsworth in those intimate moments because he was “literally the safest person I could talk to about anything in my life.” The actress noted that “there was definitely an intimacy coordinator” present for them on set.

“Both of us, as young actors, have had a lot of other types of experiences in movies,” Dern told the outlet about how she and Hemsworth made each other feel comfortable during filming.

Dern shared that it was an “amazing” feeling that the set felt like a safe space for the entire cast and crew.

“Cinema and filmmaking have changed so that everyone feels comfortable with their voice and can comfortably set boundaries without fear of losing a job or being unpopular,” Dern told the outlet.

Hemsworth and Dern star Lonely Planetwhich premiered on Netflix on Friday, October 11. The romantic film follows a successful novelist (Dern) who falls in love with a financial manager (Hemsworth) whom she meets while staying at a resort in Morocco.

While filming in Marrakech, Hemsworth said People that he and Dern formed a sweet friendship. He added that one moment that stood out to him was when he and Dern filmed a scene in one of the iconic kasbah markets.

“There were times when we were filming in the markets of Marrakesh where we couldn't even see the camera… We were completely immersed in it,” he explained. “The whole experience of filming was that it felt like we were hanging out and everything was captured at the same time.”

Hemsworth joked that instead of working on a movie it felt like he and his co-star were “hanging out like Laura and Liam, and someone was filming it somewhere.”
