'It was sudden, unexpected and too soon for someone who had so much light left to give.

'My mother was a force of nature in the gentlest way. Her beauty was not just in her presence but in the way she honored everything and everyone around her with love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

'She had a quiet elegance, a warmth that embraced everyone she met, and a wisdom that guided us all.

'Knowing her was knowing a pure, selfless and constant love. She was the best mother to us and a safe and welcoming space to many.

'Over the past few months, he battled leukemia and for the past four weeks, he battled complications in the ICU. She fought with the silent resistance that defined her, but in the end, her body could not heal.

“She was not meant to leave so soon and we are still trying to understand the depth of this loss.

'But in true Otten style, we leaned on each other, trying to bring levity to such a sad time. “I'm very lucky to have the family and the community that I have, very lucky.”

Chantelle continued by inviting those who knew Veronica to join her and her family on October 23 to celebrate her life.
