Thirteen people were shot, including one fatally, during a party in an Oklahoma town early Saturday, police say.
The violence in southwest Oklahoma City is among more than 410 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, according to statistics from the Gun Violence Archive. The independent file defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more victims are injured or killed.
Such a high rate of mass shootings has led many to call on the federal government to establish more substantial gun control, but Congress has largely been unable or unwilling to heed those requests.
A disturbance led to multiple shots fired inside and outside the private location in question around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Capt. Valerie Littlejohn of the Oklahoma Metropolis Police Department said in an email.
Littlejohn could not immediately provide information about the victims, other than that at least two were in critical condition at a hospital.
The suspects have not yet been identified, but several people were detained after the shooting and investigators were interviewing witnesses, Littlejohn said.
